The first to propose processing path model [17,21], applied in finding processing path to satisfy multiple physical properties requirement, including elastic, plastic, electrical, thermal and magnetic properties. It is applied in structural alloys [17,21,22,23,25], fuel cell electrode [16,18,19], nanotube composites [10,5,12,], iron choke [14] and UHMWPE (orthopedic arthroplasty) [5,13].

·             Statistical Continuum Mechanics: Frontrunner in multiscale modeling using statistical continuum mechanics, an efficient method in materials design [17- 25], microstructure reconstruction [1,7], properties prediction [10-14] and performance evaluation. Applied in energy science [16,18,19], nuclear energy advanced modeling and simulation [11], multiscale modeling on mechanical performance and thermal properties evolution of structural materials after irradiation.

·             Biomechanics and biomaterials: Working on two areas. One is to enhance life of artificial arthraplasty by improving wear resistance under guidance of materials design. The other one is 3D print of scaffold, tissue and artificial vascular using cellulose nanowhiskers.

·             Fabrication and processing advanced nanocomposites: aligning carbon nanotubes [26,32,31] and cellulose nanowhiskers under external force field. The first to fabricate cellulose nanowhisker paper.
